Members of Pioneer’s Muslim Student Association organized a bake sale in support of recently resettled Afghan refugees in the state of Michigan.

Approximately 1,300 refugees were welcomed to Michigan following the collapse of that nation, a result of the American withdrawal after twenty years of war.

Sana Sami helped organize the event, which took place in front of the clocktower entrance. She and several other students sold cookies, candies, and the favorite of the day- hot chocolate.

“One of our members’ sister works a lot with an organization that we are giving our money to, and they deal directly with families who are resettling,” said Sami. “We don’t organize charity because we are Muslim and these refugees come from Afghanistan, a Muslim country. We do this because it’s a humanitarian crisis and to support the relocated families,” she continued.
