It was a great turnout Thursday, Sept. 12, for the Senior Sunrise at Hollway Field, starting at 6:30 a.m. The Senior Sunrise was a great success for the class of 2025. About 80% of the senior class went to the event early in the morning.
Organized by the Student Council, the event was an opportunity for seniors to come together, hang out, chat, and eat breakfast together before they graduate in the spring. They gathered on the football field with blankets to sit on, or stood in small groups, while a gorgeous sun rose in the eastern sky.
“It was a very fun experience with all the seniors”, Brian Walker said.
It was definitely an early morning for those who attended. “It was very tiring but worth it,” said Cecile Piffaretti.
And for most, it was just a great event because they were with their high school friends. “If my friends weren’t there I wouldn’t have had much fun, but it was alright as an event,” Zach Yadmark said.
“I think the senior sunrise was a success. If you look at the photos Brian Walker took, there was a pretty high turnout,” said Allison Dorta, president of Student Council. “The best part is, we didn’t have to pay for anything. The Pioneer Senior families all came together to make it a great event. All food was donated by senior families or businesses.”
Dorta, too, appreciated that so many seniors were willing to come together on the football field so early before 1st hour begins. “All in all, it was very inspiring to see how quickly everyone united to make this event possible and we are so incredibly excited to welcome Ms. Stevenson to the building and thank her for all the help we got from her. In her words, ‘I must really love you guys to be getting up this early in the morning,’” Dorta said.
In the spring Student Council is planning a “Senior Sunset” event to mark the end of seniors’ time at Pioneer and give them one last opportunity to all be in the same place together. They have not got fully approved yet, but they are trying their hardest to make it happen.
“It will feel weird to leave and probably not see people again so I will be happy to have a chance to hang out.” Luke Hayden, a senior said after being told about the senior sunset.
